Carlsbad's McClellan Palomar Airport offers a full schedule of daily commuter flights to and from LAX on United Express and to and from Phoenix and Las Vegas on America West.
HIGHWAY
Interstate 5 links Carlsbad directly with San Diego to the south and Los Angeles to the north. Highway 78, the major east-west connection, runs from the coastline at the northern tip of Carlsbad to Blythe on the desert border of California and Arizona where it intersects Interstate 10.

RAIL
Amtrak, a vital link along the southern California corridor has a station in Oceanside, a city adjoining Carlsbad to the north. It offers passengers a choice of regularly scheduled trains on the San Diego / Los Angeles line, the most heavily traveled Amtrak line in the country.

A more adventurous option is to ride the Coaster, a commuter train between San Diego and either of the two Coaster stations in Carlsbad.

The Metrolink, a high-speed lightweight commuter train also uses the nearby Oceanside Transit Center. It provides travelers rail system service to and from Los Angeles, Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside, and North San Diego County.
